At One Hour Air Conditioning & Heating, we do more than help you keep your home at a comfortable temperature year-round. As experts in air conditioning repair in Charlotte, we can also help you ensure the best indoor air quality (IAQ) possible.
Tight Home Syndrome
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) named IAQ one of its top five health concerns. Builders have made significant changes in construction since the early 1970s to seal homes and other buildings more tightly. This makes them more energy efficient and comfortable by keeping out hot air in the summer and cold air in the winter.
However, this “Tight Home Syndrome” also seals in dust, germs, bacteria, mold, pollen, and gases, including potentially dangerous ones like carbon monoxide and radon. All of these elements get re-circulated throughout your home or office, making asthma, allergies, and other respiratory problems worse, and even causing illness. Our immune systems simply were not made to handle the level of indoor air pollution in which many people live and work.
According to the EPA, indoor air is generally at least two to five times more polluted than outdoor air. Your home is absorbing toxic gases from carpets, building materials, paint, cleaning products, disinfectants, bug sprays, and other aerosol sprays. All of these particles pass through our lungs and into our bloodstream. While the outdoor air is cleaned naturally by rain, sun, and other elements, we have to clean our indoor air.
Our Indoor Air Quality, Ductwork Maintenance, and Repair Services
One Hour Air Conditioning & Heating has whole-house air treatment products to clean, disinfect, and deodorize the air in your home around the clock, without the use of chemicals. Our comfort specialists and service technicians can convert your heating and cooling systems into a whole-house air treatment center that gets rid of these pollutants.
We use advanced air cleaning systems, like the MicroPower Guard®, which are designed to remove even tiny particles from the air. We also have OxyQuantum® UV lights that control germs and gases. These are far more effective that filters you can buy in home improvement stores.
The EPA recommends that everyone have their air ducts and heating and cooling systems inspected by a professional. This is particularly crucial if anyone in your family suffers from asthma, allergies, or sinus problems, or if you have pets who contribute dander and hair to your indoor air.
Our Charlotte air conditioning specialists can perform an inspection of your heating and cooling system and will advise a thorough air duct cleaning if we find a significant amount of contaminants in your ductwork. These contaminants, if left in your ducts, breed mold, bacteria and other fungi that no one wants in their home. They also reduce the efficiency of your heating and cooling system, which increases your utility costs. If it is necessary, our technicians can also install new ductwork.
